Each month, Art Show Factory shines a spotlight on one Australian artist, aiming to enrich connections between artists, audiences, and our creative community.
This August, Meet…
Location: Meanjin
Materials: Acrylic, oil pastel, pencil and ink
Dev Samol (Devid Samol), born in 2002 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, currently lives and works in Meanjin/Brisbane, Australia.
Samol’s drawing and painting practice blends memories and symbolism from their upbringing in Cambodia with current experiences and surroundings, blurring past and present. Figurative compositions drawn from life are inter-spliced with autobiographical narrative features, bringing traumatic and complex experiences and relationships to the surface.
Samol uses a signature blue in their palette, employing an expressive, improvisational approach to mark making.
